Management comprises directing and controlling a group of one or more people or entities for the purpose of coordinating and harmonizing that group towards accomplishing a goal. Management often encompasses the deployment and manipulation of human resources, financial resources, technological resources, and natural resources. Management can also refer to the person or people who perform the act(s) of management. [From Wikipedia]
I personally have interest in Management for different reasons, some of which are:
- My education is IT and Economical so management is central for developing professional skills
- I work as a Web Development Manager and use some practices typical for IT Managers
- I have personal interest in in Management and many of it's forms because I believe it's crucial for business productiveness
- My favorite magazine is called "Manager" (it's published in Bulgaria)
There are many books, text-books and articles about Management, but I am sure a list can be prepared of some of them that are definitely worth reading and commonly accepted.
So let me start with one such book called:
The Art of Project Management
The Art of Project Management covers it all--from practical methods for making sure work gets done right and on time, to the mindset that can make you a great leader motivating your team to do their best. Reading this was like reading the blueprint for how the best projects are managed at Microsoft...
--Joe Belfiore, General Manager, E-home Division, Microsoft Corporation
Let me add that I have read this book and I agree - it's a very well-written and broadly ranged (IT) Management book.
