The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Based on short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald this filming scenario is really more than curious..

Tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences.

With 8.5/10 this film is Top 250: #66 and still counting..
Also amazing acting by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.

This film is a must see

And yes, it so much reminds me in some way of one other masterpiece, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer ;)

Watch the Watchmen!

Postby triers on Sun Jun 28, 2009 3:56 am

Watchmen is a 2009 superhero film directed by Zack Snyder. Based on the 1986-1987 comic book limited series Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons..

@ wikipedia

Amazing movie they made in Hollywood.. For me - a new way to make cinema and to look on the past and future of the World with the eyes of a SuperHero - each one with their own story and motives but all fully built convincing characters that make you know SuperHeroes really exist.

What else can i say - real and lively atmosphere with amazing characters perfectly played by a myriad of actors and very very moving soundtrack!

I wish you pleasant watching and be prepared - this is a long duration movie

La Rabbia (2008)

@ IMDB

The story of a young director struggling to make his first film.

Yet behind this short and not revealing plot description, trust me, there is much much more than I had imagined until watching the movie. A lot of philosophical sense and metaphorical characters and scenes.

This is a film about the paradox that modernity thrusts upon us. And the the way we respond..

.. and a lot more, since this movie absolutely deserves the "Critics Award" :!:

Battle in Seattle

@ IMDB

Activists arrive in Seattle, Washington en masse to protest a meeting of the World Trade Organization. Riots and chaos ensue as demonstrators successfully stop the WTO meetings.

Or said in other words a film about the "Modern Crusaders" of our days:

Don't look back
The time has come
All the pain turns into love
We're not submissive, we're not aggressive
But they think we can't defend
Stand up, join us, modern crusaders alive
We have the power to face the future
Cause we are the fighters
Just fighting for our rights...

This film, resembling also a documentary is inspired by real events.

The Battle Continues..

Blood Diamond (2006)

@ IMDB

Plot:
A fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond.

Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio):
Sometimes I wonder if God would ever forgive us what we have done to each other. And then I look around and I realize God left this place long time ago.

Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou)
I understand white people want our diamonds from us but how can my own people do this to each other?

In January 2003, forty nations signed "The Kimberly Process" -- an effort to stem the flow of conflict diamonds.

But illegal diamonds are still finding their way to market. It is up to the consumer to insist that a diamond is a conflict-free.

Sierra Leone is at peace.

There are still 200,000 child soldiers in Africa.

Men Who Hate Women

Män som hatar kvinnor (2009)

or Men Who Hate Women (International: English title)

IMDB link

Wikipedia link

"Män som hatar kvinnor" (Swedish for "Men who hate women," renamed in the English translation as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is an award-winning novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, the first in his "Millennium Trilogy".

A middle-aged journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, publishes the magazine Millennium in Stockholm. He is hired one day by Henrik Vanger, the aged former CEO of a group of companies owned by a wealthy dynasty, in order to chronicle the family history. His real mission, however, is to solve a cold case - the disappearance, some forty years previously, of Vanger's great-niece when she was sixteen...

I'd just add this is one of the most thrilling crime movies, another marvel of the Scandinavian Cinema productions :!:
